Description

Southern Frontenac Community Services is a rural based organization focused on working with others in the provision of health and social services that meet the needs of our community.

The Cook will prepare nutritious meals for our senior clientele, taking into consideration special dietary requirements and tight timelines.  The Cook will assist in the preparation of large quantities of food to meet the production requirements of the organization.  The Cook will use knowledge of commercial kitchens and safe food handling practices to perform duties accordingly.

This is a full-time position (35 hours weekly) ongoing position, based in Sydenham, ON.

Primary Duties:

  • Working for the Meals on Wheels, Diner’s Club, SALT and Adult Day programs and preparing food for deliveries, based on collaborated menus.
  • Ensure all food service functions are performed in a safe, healthy and clean kitchen that meets or exceeds KFL&A Public Health Inspection and Safe Food Handling requirements.
  • Recruit, train, cook with, mentor and inspire a team of volunteers.
  • Inventory management and ordering of supplies.
  • Maintain and report program budget and statistics.
  • Maintain and nurture community partnerships.

Requirements:

  • Completion of a recognized course in cooking or food services (or combined equivalent of training and experience will be considered).
  • Safe Food Handling Certification an asset.
  • Cooking experience (experience with large groups an asset) with demonstrated ability to read and follow recipes.
  • Willingness to take direction.
  • Familiar with the use of commercial kitchen equipment and regulations.
  • Works and adheres to safety policies and procedure guidelines.
  • Knowledge of nutrition and special dietary requirements for seniors an asset.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently but also collaboratively with a diverse team.
  • Demonstrated organization and time management skills and ability to remain calm and respectful under pressure.
  • Ability to perform the physical aspects of the role which may include standing for extended periods of time and lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Own a reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
