Kingston, September 15, 2022 – Franco-Ontarian’s Day is celebrated on September 25th! This year, everything will take place in person starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Octave Theatre.

We invite the whole community to join us in celebrating this important day. The flag raising will be filmed at Confederation Park at 9 a.m. At 1:30 p.m., the raising of the flag will be shown on the Octave Theater projector, accompanied by speeches from distinguished guests. This ceremony will then be followed by festive music provided by Franco-Ontarian singer Mélissa Ouimet. Participants are invited to reserve a free ticket by visiting the following link: https://lepointdevente.com/billets/hfj220925001?lang=en

In the evening, City Hall will be illuminated in green and white to celebrate the day.

The Franco-Ontarian flag, whose colours feature the green of our summers and the white of our winters, was hoisted for the first time on September 25, 1975 in Sudbury. Since then, the Franco-Ontarian community has celebrated the anniversary of the flag on the 25th of September. Although the flag has been used as a symbol of the Francophonie in Ontario since its creation, it only became the official emblem of Franco-Ontarians on June 21, 2001.

In 2010, the Legislative Assembly of Ontario has proclaimed September 25th as the official day of Franco-Ontarians.  Every year, this day recognizes the contribution of the French-speaking community to the provinces cultural, historical, social, economic and political life of the province.  The proclamation of the September 25th is a clear action from the province to support the Franco-Ontarian community.

The general public is welcome to participate in this event! For more information!
