ReStart is a program of the John Howard Society of Kingston and District. We provide a wide range of employment counselling services to help people prepare for, find and keep employment. We are seeking a student for a summer position as a Employment and Community Services Worker in our Employment office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist clients in developing effective job search/ job retention strategies
• Help clients prepare resumes, cover letters, and job applications
• Provide motivation and support while addressing barriers and challenges that clients may face which impact their employability
• Promote Employment Ontario programs and services, assess client suitability for those services and assist clients in applying to such services
• Maintain awareness of local labor market trends and training/ education opportunities
• Provide information and referrals to community supports to address basic needs promoting employment readiness, including financial, housing, legal, food, addiction, etc.
• Update job board on a daily basis
• Represent ReStart at community events
• Behave professionally; maintain good relationships with colleagues and staff
• Comply with all relevant laws, including privacy laws
• Comply with JHSK&D policies and procedures
• Maintain competence through continuing training and development
• All other duties, as required

Qualifications:

• Diploma in a related field or combination of education and relevant work experience
• Experience working with individuals from different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
• Familiarity with community resources
• Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office, databases and internet
• CPIC required
