L’Association Canadienne-Française de l’Ontario, Conseil Régional des Mille-Îles (ACFOMI) is very pleased to announce the approved financing of our project ‘Carrefour d’Accueil et d’Établissement Francophone’ for the Kingston region by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

This projet is financed for a duration of 5 years and will commence April 1st, 2020. The ‘Carrefour d’Accueil et d’Immigration Francophone’ for the Kingston region will promote the integration and retention of French speaking newcomers in a minority situation.

With this funding, ACFOMI intends on becoming a true community hub in welcoming, integrating, and retaining francophone immigrants in the Kingston and Thousand Islands region. This settlement service will be a results-based program operated by and for Francophones and adapted to the profiles of newcomers.

ACFOMI firmly believes in the linguistic duality in Canada and we believe that the growth of the Francophone population outside of Quebec is vital for the country, reinforcing inclusion and diversity. The Kingston and Thousand Islands region will also benefit from the economic and competitive advantages.

This project will offer basic and personalized services to newcomers. Newcomers will have access to assessment services, support, information, orientation, employment services, and community connections. Moreover, we offer workshops that will help mobilize employers, support the entrepreneurial spirit of newcomers, improve cultural competencies tied to employment and support the most vulnerable communities in their integration.

ACFOMI has partnered with various organizations including La Route de Savoir, the Conseil de la Coopération de l’Ontario, the Conseil des Écoles Publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario, the Conseil des Écoles Catholiques du Centre-Est, Actions Interculturelles and Réseau de Soutien à l’Immigration Francophone de l’Est de l’Ontario to complete this important project for the region.

ACFOMI is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote and assure the integration, participation, representation, and accompaniment of the French-speaking community in the Thousand Islands region to assure its continuity. ACFOMI offers employment, settlement, and other services in both official languages.
